PURPOSE: To enable the easy and accurate selection of an aimed type face, by forming an indented portion of discrimination by the combination of a projection and a concavity corresponding to the kind of types, the sizes thereof, etc. in an appropriate place on the flat surface of the type face.

CONSTITUTION: The whole of a type face 1 is formed in the shape of a bowl with types 3 arranged in a circle. An indented portion 2 for discrimination formed on the top surface of the bottom part of the type face 1 is composed of two projections 2a disposed at an arbitrary interval on the radius which is concentric with the center of rotation of the type face 1. Since the indented portion 2 for discrimination corresponding to the kind of the types, the sizes thereof, etc. is formed in an appropriate place of the type face, many kinds of type faces can be discriminated from one another easily and speedily, and therefore, the type face can be replaced efficiently and accurately.
