1445305 Shears J A HOUGH 18 Dec 1974 [4 Jan 1974] 54806/74 Heading B4B A shearing tool, e.g. snips, scissors or shears, comprises first and second shearing blades 3, 4 pivoted together by a rivet 6, the tail 10 of which is clinched and frictionally fixed to the first blade, wherein the hardness of the surface of the second blade at the pivot area exceeds 50 Rockwell C and wherein the bearing surface under the rivet head which moves relative to the hardened surface of the second blade also exceeds 50 Rockwell C. The rivet is casehardened and may be zinc or chrome plated and the blades are chrome plated to a hardness of 60-65 Rockwell C. In a modification, a hardened washer may be fitted under the head of a soft rivet.
