PURPOSE: To from a hologram with high diffraction efficiency by interposing λ/2 plate in an optical path formed through a master hologram which deflects incident light so that 1-order diffracted light and 0-order diffracted light become equal in intensity.
CONSTITUTION: The λ/2 plate 9 is interposed between a light source 1A and a beam expander 3 and the angle of incidence of incident light to the master hologram 5A is set almost to Bragg condition. Luminous flux 2A is made into luminous flux 2B which can be set to and optional angle of polarization rotation by the rotation of the plate 9, and the luminous flux width is expanded by the beam expander 3 to obtain incident light 4B, which enters a hologram 5A. A dry plate 6 is superposed upon the hologram 5A, and the 1-order diffracted light 7B and 0-order light 8B of the light 4B are incident to the dry plate 6 while interfering with each other to record the hologram, thereby transferring the hologram 5A even to the dry plate 6.
