Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an adjuster capable of optimizing the generated output of a fuel cell system in all operating ranges while minimizing energy consumption required to compress air, and an operating method thereof. CONSTITUTION: A fuel cell system 1 which breathes air comprises an air supply pipe 3, a fuel cell 12, an air exhausting pipe 5, and a separate hydrogen gas supply unit. A compressor 6 of variable rotational frequency is set in the air supply pipe 3 in order to adjust the output of the fuel cell 12, an expansion unit 16 of a variable absorptive capability is set in the air exhausting pipe 5, and the compressor 6, the expansion unit 16 and an additional driving motor 30 are set on a common shaft 20. The compressor 16 converts pressure energy contained in exhaust air into mechanical energy, giving this energy through the common shaft 20 to the compressor 6. 3 g An air volume flux is adjusted to a specified target value through the rotational frequency of the compressor 6 and a specified operating pressure in the fuel cell system 1 is simultaneously adjusted by controlling the absorptive capability of the compressor 16.
