PURPOSE: To form a highly detailed recording dot by providing insulators, the control electrode held between the insulators and the electrode formed on the surface opposed to a rear electrode of the upper insulator to a toner flow control means.

CONSTITUTION: An image forming apparatus is equipped with a toner flow control means controlling the flow of charged toner, a toner supply means supplying the charged toner to the toner flow control means and the rear electrode 22 arranged in opposed relation to the toner supply means through the toner flow control means. Insulators 2,7, the control electrode held between the insulators 2,7 and the electrode 9 formed on the surface opposed to the rear electrode of the insulator 7 are provided to the toner flow control means. Since constant voltage is always applied to the electrode 9, the electric field formed on a toner flow generating side is not disturbed and an image due to highly detailed recording dots free from strain and scattering can be formed.
