Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable continuous current limitation by connecting a trigger element, which consists of a superconductor having a specified critical current value, and a superconductive coil, which has an optional critical current value and inductance, in parallel, and applying a magnetic field to the trigger element by this superconductive coil. CONSTITUTION:By the quenching of this trigger element 1, voltage occurs across the trigger element 1, and a current iLC, which has a delay phase of 90 deg. to this voltage, flows to a current limiting coil 3. By this current limiting coil iLC, magnetic fields in accord with the number of patterns occur within the current limiting coil 3, so the resistivity rho of the trigger element 1 rises to the maximum value instantaneously regardless to the element temperature. That is, since the resistance value of the trigger element 1 increases suddenly, the greater part of accident currents commutate to the side of the current limiting coil 3, and then the trigger circuit is interrupted by a switch 2.
