PURPOSE: To produce a high hardness Al-base alloy by incorporating specific percentages of Pt, Pd, Ir, Rh, lanthanoide series elements, Y, La, and Sc into Al.
CONSTITUTION: An Al-base alloy, which has a composition consisting of, by atom, 0.1-30% of one or more elements selected from Pt, Pd, Ir, and Rh, 0.1-20% of one or more elements selected from lanthanoide series elements (Ce is particularly preferred), Y, La, and Sc, and the balance Al (it is preferable to regulate Al content to a value not lower than about 50% based on the total content of the alloy) and containing, if necessary, 1-30% of one or more elements selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Re, Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Os, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, Hg, Ga, In, Tl, Ge, Sn, Pb, As, Sb, and Bi, is prepared. By this method, the Al-base alloy having high hardness and high wear resistance can be obtained.
