PURPOSE: To obtain a new element, having a new aluminum complex structure and excellent characteristics of high brightness, luminous efficiency and longevity, excellent in adhesion to an electrode and useful as luminous elements, electronic materials, etc., of various display devices.
CONSTITUTION: This organic electroluminescent element contains a compound having an aluminum complex structure expressed by formula I {X is a group expressed by the formula Ar1-Y-Ar2 [Ar1 and Ar2 are each (substituted)6-24C aromatic rings; Y is an alkylene, a cycloalkylene, etc.], a group expressed by formula II (R1 and R2 are each 6-12C aryls, 1-12C alkyls, etc.), etc.; L1 to L4 are each ligands expressed by formula III or IV}, e.g. an organic electroluminescent element having an aluminum complex structure expressed by formula V. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by stirring an 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative and an aluminum alkoxide in a solvent such as an alcohol under heated conditions, etc.
