Title:
CHILLED ALLOY MATERIAL FOR ROLL WITH SUPERIOR CRACKING AND WEAR RESISTANCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5923846
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the cracking and wear resistances of a composite roll by using a chilled alloy material contg. a specified amount of Co as the material of the outer layer of the composite roll.

CONSTITUTION: A roll for hot rolling or cold rolling is manufactured as a composite roll by centrifugal casting. The inner layer of the composite roll is made of a material with superior toughness such as graphite steel, "Adamite" or ductile cast iron. The outer layer contacting with a material to be rolled is made of a chilled alloy material contg. 2.9W4.0% C, 0.2W2.0% Si, <1.5% Mn, <3.0% Ni, 0.5W18% Cr, 0.1W6.0% Mo, 2.0W10.0% W, 0.2W3.0% V, 0.2W5.0% Co, <0.2% P and <0.1% S. By adding Co, the amount of residual austenite in the matrix structure of the chilled alloy material is reduced to improve the cracking and wear resistances of the roll at high temp. and to prolong the life.
