PURPOSE: To provide a device excellent in the cleaning ratio of exhaust gas and capable of effectively absorbing and relaxing deformation force due to heat under the cooperation work of a predetermined corrugated strip material and a predetermined trapezoidal corrugated strip material by producing a honeycomb element by superposing both strip materials each made of a thin-walled metal plate one upon another in a mutual contact state.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas cleaning device using a honeycomb element supporting an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is equipped with a corrugated strip material B1 made of a thin-walled metal plate whose cross-sectional shape has an almost sine wave with pitch width P1 and height H1 and a trapezoidal corrugated stip material B2 having trapezoidal corrugations whose cross-sectional shape is formed by connecting trapezoidal shapes in the direction right-angled to an exhaust gas stream and having a plurality of corrugating regions wherein trapezoidal corrugations become staggerred in the direction of the exhaust gas stream so as to form the conduits of the exhaust gas stream become staggerred in the direction of the exhaust gas stream and having trapezoidal corrugations with the length L of a flat part and height H2. Both strip materials B1, B2 are superposed one upon another in a mutual contact state.
