Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a valve gear mechanism member for internal combustion engine excellent in strength and wear resistance by mixing a ceramic powder of specific grain size with a powder of alloy having a specific composition consisting of Si, Cu, Mg, transition metal, and Al in specific proportions and subjecting the resulting powder mixture to plastic working. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic powder of 2.5-5.0mum average grain size is blended with a powder of an alloy, having a composition in which 0.1-0.5%, by weight, Si, 4.5-7.0% Cu, 0.5-1.0% Mg, and 1.5-2.5% of one or more transition metal elements among Fe, Ni, Mn, and Cr are added as essential elements and which has the balance consisting of Al with impurities, by 2.5-5.0 pts.vol. based on 100 pts.vol. of the above Al alloy powder. A powder mixture prepared by mixing the above powders is compacted and subjected to plastic working, such as hot extrusion. By this method, the valve gear mechanism member for internal combustion engine of automobile, etc., excellent in strength at ordinary temp., strength at high temp., impact resisting strength, and wear resistance can be obtained.
