PURPOSE: To obtain a permanent magnet alloy for thin product use, in which deterioration in magnetic properties does not occur even if at least one principal plane is worked by grinding, etc., and thickness is reduced, by compacting a powder in which the atomic composition of material is specified and then sintering the resulting green compact.
CONSTITUTION: A powder, which has a composition containing, by atom, 0.05-3.0% of at least one kind among borides and also containing, as essential components, 10-24% R (Where R consists of at least one element among Nd, Pr, Dy, Ho and Tb, or consists of one or more elements among them and further at least one element among La, Ce, Sm, Gd, Er, Eu, Tm, Yb, La, and Y), 4-24% B, and 65-81% Fe, is sintered. By this method, the permanent magnet alloy for thin product use, free from deterioration in magnetic properties even if one principal plane of sintered magnet is worked, e.g. by grinding, can be obtained.
