PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus for accurately transferring slices by means of a rotating drum without introducing deformation of the slices.

CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for transferring individual material slices 16 which are sliced from a material supply to a support web includes a rotating hollow drum 22 disposed on, and rotating around, a stationary inner drum 30. The rotating outer drum 22 is disposed proximate to a slicing station and the material supply. The rotating drum 22 and the stationary drum 30 have hollow inner cores to which negative and positive air pressure is alternately applied so as to cause the individual material slices 16 to be alternately adhered to and separated from an outer shell of the drum.
