Abstract:
A porous bearing body made by pressure-free sintering SiC contains 3-10 vol.% independent closed pores consisting of micro-pores (M) of dia. max. 5 mu m, fibre-shaped pores (F) of dia. max. 30 mu m and length max. 80 mu m, and spherical large pores (K) of dia. max. 70 mu m. The amts. of the three types of pores is given by the trapezoidal shape inside fig.1 with the corners given by a = 10% M:80% F:10% K, b = 10% M:10% F:80% K, c = 40% M:10% F:50% K, d = 40% M: 50% F:10% K. The tensile strength of the body is at least 250 MNm<-2>.
