PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium superior at its recording and reproducing sensitivity without using an auxiliary magnetic pole by constituting a substrate of a recording medium for vertical magnetic recording with soft magnetic substance and laminating a non-magnetic resin layer, a soft magnetic layer and a vertically magnetized thin film layer on the surface of the substrate in order.
CONSTITUTION: The non-magnetic resin layer 2 with about 100μ or less thickness is applied to the surface of the substrate 1 consisting of the soft magnetic substance such as ferrite and permalloy and then cured. A heat resisting material such as a polyimide resin and a phenol/acrylic resin may be preferably used for the resin layer 2. Subsequently, the soft magnetic layer 3 with about 0.5W1.0μ thickness is formed on the layer 2 by evaporation or the like and then the vertically magnetized thin film layer 4 such as Co and Cr is formed with about 0.2W0.5μ thickness on the layer 3 by sputtering or the like. When necessary, the surface of the layer 4 is coated with a lubricant layer 12. Thus, a rigid disc or the like having high recording/reproducing sensitivity is obtained only by a head slider 15 having a main magnetic pole 6, a main magnetic pole driving signal coil 7 and a magnetic substance 18 for reducing the magnetic resistance of reflux magnetic flux without using an auxiliary magnetic pole.
