PURPOSE: To attain high speed reproduction while color reproduction is kept in an excellent way with simple circuit configuration by reproducing a digital video signal recorded from a recording medium in the high speed forward reproduction mode at an interval of 4n+1 fields and providing an output.
CONSTITUTION: In the video recording and reproducing device recording and reproducing an NTSC digital video signal, when the high speed forward reproduction mode is designated to a CPU by an operation panel, the CPU receives the processing program for the high speed forward reproduction mode from a program ROM and executes the processing. In this mode, the CPU gives a head address of the read field at an interval of 4n+1 (in the case of n=1 for the simple explanation, at an interval of 5 fields) to an address generating circuit together with a high speed forward reproduction mode command. Thus, video data are read sequentially at an interval of 5 fields from an optional field from the video recording RAM and provides the read data via a data buffer as an output and the video image without deterioration in picture quality is obtained by simple circuit, configuration.
