Title:
CATALYST MUFFLER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS595823
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the abrasion and breakage of the titled device through suppressing the relative movement thereof in relation to a catalyst case occurring as a result of repetitive thermal expansion and contraction, by releasing the thermal expansion fragment of metallic material and continuously affording to a catalyst the axial compressive force of proper magnitude. CONSTITUTION:A honey-comb catalyst 1 is secured to a catalyst case 6 by means of end plates via steel woolings 2, 3 formed by compression. The catalyst case has its partial portion formed as a bellow 7 of which compressive force serves to secure the honey-comb catalyst 1 at a position continuously receiving the compressive force of proper magnitude. As the catalyst is activated and a chemical reaction takes place, substances surrounding the catalyst become excessively hot for causing the metallic catalyst case 6 to expand more than the catalyst itself. Since an axial compressive force is always imposed on the catalyst even while the catalyst case is experiencing a thermal expansion, the catalyst can be positively secured at an area between opposite end plates.
