Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound in a short time, with a simple procedure, by reacting a carbonyl compound with thiol in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid, and reducing the product with an amine-borane.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is prepared by reacting a carbonyl compound which is an aliphatic or aromatic aldehyde or ketone with an aliphatic or aromatic thiol in a dilute trifluoroacetic acid, and reducing the product with an amine-borane (e.g. pyridine-borane). The reaction can be carried out without separating the intermediate product comprising hemithioacetal or hemithioketal which is generally unstable and difficult to separate.
