Abstract:
A modular construction catalyser, or carbon filter, for an IC engine has a selected length central cylinder (1) fitted each end with standard connecting cones (20, 21) with a double skinned construction enclosing thermal insulation (10). The outer skin of each cone is welded to the central cylinder. The inner skin is attached to the outer skin at the outer end and has a floating construction at the inner end, to accommodate thermal movements. The floating inner end can be butted against a support ring, or onto the end of the inner thermal cladding of the cylinder. The inner skin can include shaping for thermal expansion.
