PURPOSE: To oscillate a continuous casting mold for a steel in such a way that a substantial amt. of powder can be admitted between the mold and a shell even if a billet is drawn at a high speed by making the ascending time of the mold in one period in the vertical oscillation thereof longer than the descending time thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The ascending time tu of a casting mold in one period of the oscillation thereof is made longer than the descending time td as shown in the solid line in the figure. Then a considerable increase in positive strip time tp is made possible. The inflow rate of the powder to the spacing between the mold and the shell is therefore maintained without decreasing even if the drawing speed of a billet is increased. The frictional force between the mold and the shell is thus decreased and a breakout accident is prevented previously.
