PURPOSE: To enable exact measurement even when a model moves considerably forward or backward, by placing the body of a titled device on a carriage and controlling the carriage so as to follow up the forward and backward movements of the model.
CONSTITUTION: A pantograph type guide mechanism 5 for measuring the forward, backward, upward and downward movements and pitching of a model 4 is provided on a carriage 1 which is guided by guide rails 3 and is self-travelable above a water tank. Angle measuring devices 11, 12, 13 which detect the rocking angles θ1, θ2, θ3 of a horizontal member 6, a vertical member 8 and the model 4 are provided to a horizontal support shaft 7, a horizontal shaft 9 and a horizontal mounting pin 10. The movement extent yS by traveling of the carriage 1 is detected with a length measuring device 17. The forward and backward displacement yG, upper and lower displacement ZG and pitching ψ of the model 4 are as shown by the equations. When the displacement yG increases, the carriage 1 is moved by a servocontrol motor to make θ3 zero so that the carriage follows up the model 4.
