NEW MATERIAL:A thiolcarbamate derivative expressed by formulaI[R is alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, phenethyl, formula II (n is an integer 1W4); formula III (R1 and R2 are H or alkyl; X is H or halogen, provided that R1 is the same as R2 and not H)].
EXAMPLE: S-n-Butylheptamethyleneiminothiolcarbamate.
USE: A herbicide, capable of controlling weeds in paddy fields and exhibiting a high selectivity without giving harmful effects on paddy-rice plants which are useful crops, and useful for treating soil before or after the germination of weeds in paddy fields.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula II (M is alkali metal or tertiary amine) is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III (X is halogen) in a solvent, e.g. water, in the presence or absence of a phase transfer catalyst, e.g. a quaternary ammonium salt, at room temperature W the boiling point of the solvent for 0.5W7hr to give the compound expressed by formulaI.
