PURPOSE: To obtain an optical communication wire for composite power lines requiring no insulation in the stage of drawing out from the terminal of the composite power lines by containing optical fiber cores coated with a fiber reinforced thermosetting resin in a pipe of a fiber reinforced thermosetting resin.
CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber core 4 coated with a nonmetallic fiber reinforced thermosetting resin is contained via a void 3 in a pipe 2 of a nonmetallic fiber reinforced thermosetting resin. The pipe 2 has the laminar structure wherein nonmetallic fibers 2a such as glass fibers or polyamide fibers are coated and impregnated with a thermosetting resin 2b such as an expoxy resin or polyester resin and the resin is allowed to set. The core 4 consists of an optical fiber 4a having a primary coating of silicone rubber, etc., a cushion layer, etc., of which the outside circumference is coated with a resin layer 4b wherein a thermosetting resin such as an epoxy resin or polyester resin is reinforced with glass fibers or polyamide fibers. A composite power cable 10 is produced by twisting three insulated electric wires 11 together, interposing the optical communication wire 1 of this invention in the clearances thereof, and applying a cable sheath 13 on the outside circumference through retaining windings 12.
