PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal composition containing a multicolor colorant of dialkylamino type highly soluble to the host liquid crystal, by dissolving, in a host liquid crystal as the parent body, a multi-color colorant containing a colorant having group of a specific formula as a guest substance.
CONSTITUTION: The objective liquid crystal can be obtained by dissolving in (A) a host liquid crystal as the parent body, (B) a multi-color colorant containing a colorant (pref. of azo type, azomethine type, anthraquinone type, etc.) having a group expressed by the formula I (R0 and R1 are each linear alkyl differing in length, said alkyl is such that the methylene in the chain not adjacent to N may be substituted by O or S) as a guest substance. Especially, the colorant having a group expressed by the above formula I is preferable to that expressed by formula II (W is a group of the formula I ; B0WB3 are each N=N, N=CH, COO, SCH2, etc.; Y' is H, alkyl, alkoxy, -NR2R3 etc.; R2 and R3 are each H, alkyl, or may form pyrrolidine ring, etc., connecting to each other; Z1WZ3 are each H, halogen, methyl, or may form an N-contg. ring connecting to R2 or R3, n0, n3, n5 and n7 are each 0 or 1; n1, n2, n4 and n6 are each 0, 1, or 2).
