Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a metallic filler effective to rust-prevention without lowering the frictional coefficient of the molded article, and suitable as a frictional molding material such as brake shoe, etc., by applying an inorganic alkali silicate layer to the surface of a metallic filler.

CONSTITUTION: A layer of an inorganic alkali silicate such as potassium silicate, alkali tin silicate, etc. is applied to the surface of a metallic filler such as steel fibers, steel powder, etc. e.g. by coating, dipping, casting, spraying, mixing, etc., and baked preferably at 100W400°C to obtain the objective filler. The amount of the inorganic alkali silicate layer is preferably 1W15wt% based on the metallic filler. The obtained filler is mixed with a thermosetting resin (e.g. epoxy resin), a reinforcing material, and a colorant (e.g. carbon black) to obtain a molding material for frictional use.
