PURPOSE: To enable the compactification by enabling a motor for a starter to be made small not only in radial direction but also in axial direction.

CONSTITUTION: A lead terminal 5a on the inlet side of a field coil 5 is connected to a power lead wire through the first coupling wire 8a, and the lead terminal 5b on outlet side is connected to a brush through the second coupling wire 8b, and both the lead terminal 5a on inlet side and the lead terminal 5b on outlet side and the first coupling wire 8a and the second coupling wire 8b are drawn out to the side of the brush. A lead terminal 5A on the inside periphery side of both the lead terminal 5a on inlet side and the lead terminal 5b on outlet side is accommodated in the circumferential groove 3A being made from the opening end of a yoke 3 to a pole core 4 at the inside periphery on brush side of the yoke 3, and a lead terminal 5B on outside periphery side, the first terminal coupling wire 8a, and the second terminal coupling wire 8b are arranged between the inside periphery wall of the circumferential groove 3A and the virtual cylindrical face P regulated by the inside diameter part in the diametrical direction of the yoke of a field coil 5.
