Abstract:

PURPOSE: To continuously produce a uniform thin catalyst electrode by using alcohol solvent in a catalyst sheet forming process using rollers.

CONSTITUTION: Electroconductive catalyst material and fluorine resin are uniformly kneaded with alcohol or alcohol and water, and rolled between two rotating rolls in a sheet form, then pressed to a porous metal base material, and dried, and heated to continuously produce a gas diffusion catalyst electrode. When alcohol or alcohol and water are used as solvent, fibrillation of fluorine resin is properly suppressed and relatively small secondary particles are formed. Alcohol serves as lubricant between catalyst particles and slip of catalyst material is improved. Therefore, thin uniform sheet can be rolled between rollers.
