PURPOSE: To produce a friction pad that makes a less braking noise, by forming a projection on the surface of a backing plate and a concave part in the undersurface thereof, applying a friction material to the surface, filling the undersurface with rubber, and molding them under pressure and heating.

CONSTITUTION: The backing plate 1 having the projection 3 on the surface is placed between a mold 4 and a table 5. In this case, a piece 6 of unvulcanized rubber is inserted in the concave part in the undersurface of the backing plate 1. A suitable amount of a raw material 7 for the friction pad is fed on the backing plate in the mold 4, is heated through the mold and the table, and is press molded by a pressing upper lever 8. Then the raw material for the friction pad is molded under pressure and heating into the friction pad 2, and at the same time the unvulcanized rubber piece 6 is deformed to be filled into the concave part of the backing plate, and also flowed between the backing plate 1 and the table 5 to be formed into a thin rubber layer 9.
