Abstract:
A method of crystallising at least the outer skin of grains of amorphous plastic granules, preferably thermoplastic polyester (PETP) is described, heating gas being fed to an agitating hopper and passed in countercurrent through the granules sinking through the agitating hopper, the granules being heated to crystallisation temperature. In order to be able to provide a method for at least partially crystallising amorphous plastic granules which allows a continuous removal of crystallised granules from the agitating hopper while avoiding the heat losses which have occurred hitherto, it is envisaged that the inlet temperature of the heating gas introduced into the agitating hopper is kept at a value above the removal temperature of the granules from the agitating hopper. Furthermore, an apparatus for carrying out the method is described.
