Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an achromatic high contrast display.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal element 6 is disposed between polarizing plates 2, 3, and two phase plates 4, 5 are disposed between the polarizing plate 2 and the liquid crystal element 6. The wavelength dispersion B of the phase plates 4, 5 is 50 (30≤B≤250) of double refractive anisotropy Δn, and the optical axes of the phase plates make 45° angle (5°≤≤60°). By this method, the polarized state of light is made same to give a high compensation effect. Thus, achromatic and high contrast display can be obtd.
