Abstract:
Process for producing stable polymer dispersions by radical emulsion polymerization of vinylically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium in the presence of a catalyst as well as amphoteric polymers as stabilizers. To ensure that the films made from the polymer dispersions possess improved water resistance and high gloss, the amphoteric polymers used as stabilizers are practically insoluble in water at the isoelectric point. The pH at which the emulsion polymerisation is carried out, which is different from the isoelectric point, is adjusted using volatile and non-volatile neutralization agents.
