Abstract:
PURPOSE: To exterminate nematodes or prevent damage to cultivated plants by the nematodes by using a specific alkylbenzene, especially 1-t-butyl-3,5- dimethylbenzene as an active ingredient and making the active ingredient act on insect pests or their habitats. CONSTITUTION: An alkylbenzene represented by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each a 1-4C alkyl; R<3> is a 1-6C alkyl, a 3-6C cycloalkyl, a 2-4C alkenyl or a 2-4C alkynyl; R<4> is H, a 1-6C alkyl or a 2-4C alkenyl; R<5> is a 1-6C alkyl, a 3-6C cycloalkyl, a 2-4C alkenyl or a 2-4C alkynyl) (1-t-butyl-3,5-dimethylbenzene is especially preferred) is made to act on insect pests or their habitats to thereby exterminate nematodes or prevent damage to cultivated plants. Root-knot nematodes, stem and foliar nematodes, etc., are cited as the nematodes. The method for exterminating is extremely effective and safe for users.
