CONSTITUTION: The drive control is carries out as follows for a photogravure carving machine so that a carving head 27 is moved to a designated position. That is, the position of the head 27 is sampled by a gap sensor 29 in a fixed cycle. Thus, the position data are acquired. Then, the weighting is applied to the position data and the precedent position history data based on these data. Thus, the new position history data are calculated. Furthermore the weighting is applied to the present position data and the new position history data based on these data. Thus, the drive data are calculated. Then, a drive signal is calculated for drive of the head 27 based on the drive data. Thus, the drive of the head 27 is controlled by the drive signal.
