PURPOSE: To obtain a high activity catalyst having pores fit for hydrogenation of a petroleum fraction, etc., and having a large surface area by preparing an org. polymer-inorg. multiple oxide composite body, removing the org. polymer from the composite body, forming a carrier with the remaining material and a porous inorg. oxide and supporting one of the groups VI and VIII metals on the carrier.
CONSTITUTION: An org. polymer such as polyvinylpyrrolidone and at least two kinds of metal alkoxides such as Al(OCH3)3 and Si(OCH3)4 are brought into cohydrolysis and polymn. optionally in coexistence with a metallic salt such as nickel nitrate to prepare an org. polymer-inorg. multiple oxide composite body and the org. polymer is removed from the composite body by extraction or other method. A carrier is formed with the remaining material and a porous inorg. oxide and at least one of the groups VI and VIII metals of the periodic table is supported on the carrier. Pores are easily adjusted and the objective catalyst with the composite oxide carrier having the desired pore diameter can be obtd. by simple preparation.
