PURPOSE: To increase the degree of freedom in automotive designing by splitting the input shaft of a transmission gear into front and rear parts and connecting them by a connecting means which is capable of varying the direction of power transmission.
CONSTITUTION: Power is transmitted from the output shaft 6 of a transmission gear to a propeller shaft 10 via a journal joint 8. The input shaft 14 is divided into the front and rear parts 14a and 14b and has a middle joint 16 connecting them to each other, whereby varying the direction of power transmission by β. Since modification in direction of power transmission is achieved by not the journal joint 8 but the joint 16, the angle β is only a little magnitude to be modified. The transmission gear and a propeller shaft may be joined within a short interval. In addition, the direction of power transmission may be attained by combination of the joints 16 and 18 so that the degree of freedom in designing is increased.
