Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare a skin humectant composition for treating dry or cracked skin, dermatitis and other proliferative skin symptoms and diseases with a cosmetic or a medicine. CONSTITUTION: This skin humectant composition comprises (A) a topically administrable carrier, (B) a hydroxy-terminated urethane compound represented by the formula [R is a 1-20C alkylene or alkenylene, a 5-10C cycloalkylene or cycloalkenylene, a 6-10C unsubstituted or one or more alkyl- or alkoxy- substituted alkyl, NO2 , NH2 or a halogen-substituted mononuclear or heterocyclic ring arylene; R<1> is an alkylene or an alkenylene; (m) is an integer selected so as to provide a residue O-R<1> having 40-6,000 molecular weight; (n) and (n<1> ) are each an integer of 0-30 correlated with the (m)] in an amount of >=1 wt.%, especially within the range of 2-15 wt.%. The composition may further contain a keratin softener, a humectant, skin emollient, an antiinflammatory agent, an emulsifying agent, an emulsion stabilizer or a preservative.
