PURPOSE: To produce a short metallic wire rod with ease by charging molten metal into a vertical furnace having a cylindrical shape, flowing the molten metal downward by the own weight from the many small holes provided in the furnace bottom, cutting the flowing molten metal with a cutting blade provided to a disc rotating at a high speed and dropping the same into a lower water tank.
CONSTITUTION: High temp. gas is introduced through a pipe 5 into a cylindrical vertical furnace 1 lined with a refractory material 1b to heat the inside of the furnace to a high temp. Molten metal A such as molten copper or the like is supplied from a charging pipe 3 mounted to a furnace cover 2 and when the amt. in the furnace increases, the molten metal A flows by the own weight in the shape of a wire from many small holes 8 into a lower water tank 11. A rotary disc 9 mounted on the lower side of a furnace bottom plate 7 is rotated at a high speed and the wire-like molten metal flowing down from the holes is cut with a cutting blade 10 provided to the disc 9. The molten metal is cooled to solidify in a water tank 11, whereby the short wire rods of about 0.1W0.5mm diameter and about 25mm length are manufactured.
