Abstract:
PURPOSE:In a gasket wherein cut pieces each having a stepped part and a tapered part formed in its end portion are connected with each other, properly to connect the cut pieces with each other to improve the property, quality, durability and the like by specifying the depth of cut of the stepped part and the angle of inclination of the tapered part. CONSTITUTION:A flat gasket material is cut into the shape of band and the like, and the end portion of each of cut pieces 1 and 2 is cut into the shape of step having a stepped part 4 and a tapered part 5. The cut part of each of the cut pieces 1 and 2 is coated with an adhesive, and the cut pieces 1 and 2 are connected with each other to form a scarf joint gasket. In this case, when the thickness of the gasket material is t, the depth d of cut of the stepped part 4 is in the range of 0.15t-0.3t and the angle of the tapered part 5 is in the range of 1 deg.-15 deg.. Thus, the connecting parts is surely positioned during adhesion of the cut pieces 1 and 2, and the surface of the connected gasket is smoothed more surely. As a result, stress concentration to corner parts of the notch in the stepped part is excluded, as well is falling off of the connected end face is prevented so that liquid leakage is avoided.
