PURPOSE: To effectively increase the surface area of a shadow mask without damaging mechanical strength and permeated hole shape and improve heat radiation and suppress the deterioration of color purity due to doming phenomena by making the surface coarseness of the shadow mask permeated hole wall larger than the surface coarseness of a non-permeated hole section.

CONSTITUTION: The surface coarseness of the permeated hole wall 9 of a shadow mask 5 is made larger than the surface coarseness of a non-permeated hole of the shadow mask 5. For example, a permeated hole 6 is perforated by etching using an aluminum killed low carbon plate with preset thickness with the surface coarseness of Rz=1.0 to 3.0μm and crystal particle size number 9 to 13 are used as the shadow mask material. The etching is performed in two stages. An easy to etch surface is preferentially dissolved and the internal wall section of a hole is made coarse by varying the etching condition at the front stage etching before the hole is perforated and the rear stage etching after the hole is perforated and perform etching under the high condition of the front stage etching capacity.
