PURPOSE: To suppress gas evolution during charge-discharge by melting alloy which stores an alkali metal ion during charge and releases it during discharge, and degassing it in a vaccum, and cooling it and press-bonding it with llthium to form a negative electrode.
CONSTITUTION: Woods metal 2 comprising 50wt% Bi, 12.5wt% Cd, 25wt% Pb, and 12.5wt% Sn is melted in an iron mold 1 place on a hot plate 3 and is degassed in a vacuum by using a suction bell jar 4, then rolled in a uniform thickness with a roller and cooled to form an alloy electrode. Neckel expanded metal is pressed on its both sides to form an electrode plate, then lithium sheet is press- bonded to form a negative electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. Since air contained in the electrod plate, which causes gas evolution during charge-discharge, is removed in a vacuum, charge-discharge performance is stabilized.
