Abstract:

PURPOSE: Using an organotin halide, cyanuric halide and 1,2 5,2,4,6-triazatri- phosphorin hexahalide as a catalyst, the reaction between acetone and ammonia is carried out to give the titled compound of high purity in high yield.

CONSTITUTION: Acetone or acidic condensates thereof such as diacetone alcohol is made to react with ammonia to produce 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-oxopiperidine wherein an organotin halide such as methyltin trichloride or dimethyltin dichloride and cyanuric halide such as cyanuric chloride and 1,3,5,2,4,6-triazatriphosphorin hexahalide are used as a catalyst. A cocatalyst such as ammonium chloride or zinc chloride may be used to increase its yield.

USE: Light stabilizer for macromolecular materials and synthetic intermediate of medicines.
