Title:
MANUFACTURE OF IMIDO GROUP-CONTAINING POLYADDUCT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5941332
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
Polyaddn. prods. contg. imide gps. are prepd. by reacting at 50-280 (150-250) degrees C 1 mol. polyimides (I) contg., per mol., 2 residue of formula:- (where D = bivalent C=C gp., esp. -CH=CH-) with 0.3-1 mol. equiv. polyvalent phenols (II) in presence of 0.1-10 (0.5-5) wt. % basic reactant catalyst (III). (I) is pref. a bis-maleinimide of formula:- (where R = 2-30C bivalent organic residue; A is of formula (II); R' = -CH2-, -C(Me)2-, -SO2-, -SO-, -S- or -O-; and n = 0 or 1), esp. N, N1 - 4,41-diphenylmethene-bis-maleinimide. (II) are single-ring cpds. e.g. resorcinol or hydroquinone, or multiple-ring cpds., e.g. dihydroxydiphenyl - methane, - propane, - sulphide, - oxide, - sulphoxide, - sulphone, or novolak resins from phenol and formaldehyde. (III) is either sec. and/or tert. amine, or aromatic/araliphatic di- or tri-prim. amine of formula:- esp. 4,41-diaminodiphenyl methane. For castings, mouldingS, laminates, surface coatings, adhesive and expanded prods. used in the paint, electrical, laminating and building inds. Cured prods., esp. when postcured at high temps., have exceptionally high stability to heat. Prepn. of the inter, shelf-stable compsns. prior to shaping and curing has none of the disadvantages, i.e. foul smell, toxicity of bis-maleinimide/aliphatic dithiol systems and cured prods. when burnt do not evolve foul, toxic vapours.
