PURPOSE: To provide an adhesive capable of direct bonding to dentime despite the absence of pretreatment with an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid, comprising an organotitanate and a copolymer prepared from maleic acid and a vinyl compound mixture containing a specific amount of a radical-copolymerizable vinyl compound having hydrophobic group.
CONSTITUTION: The objective adhesive comprising (A) a copolymer prepared from (i) maleic acid and (ii) a vinyl compound mixture containing 40W90mol% of a radical-copolymerizable vinyl compound having hydrophobic group such as of phenyl, ethyl (pref. styrene) and (B) an organotitanate (pref. tetra-iso-propyl titanate or tetra-n-butyl titanate). The amount of the component (B) is pref. 0.02W2mols per mole of the maleic acid mentioned above.
EFFECT: Free from dental pulp hazards due to the unreactive monomer(s) contained. Having high water resistance.
