PURPOSE: To perform high-density vertical magnetic recording and reproduction, by bringing a main magnetic pole disc into contact with a magnetic side of a running tape and an auxiliary magnetic pole disc at the back side and rotating both the disc around a common shaft through the provision of a plurality of pairs of main and auxiliary magnetic poles.
CONSTITUTION: A main magnetic pole disc 4 having a main magnetic pole mp and a submagnetic pole disc 3 having a submagnetic pole ap are opposed with a gap to a tape 1 at a shaft 2 and they rotate toward the arrow B. A tape 1 runs toward an arrow A. The main magnetic pole mp (11a, 11b, 12aW) is arranged for the disc 4, (a) and (b) are respectively recording and reproduction pairs, and the tape 1 is recorded at different azimuth angle at every other recording. The main magnetic pole mp is formed by sputtering a high permeability substance 6 on a nonmagnetic base 5 and the ap is formed by winding a coil 7b on a iron core 7a of a mild magnetic substance, a recording signal is applied to the coil 7b to output a reproducing signal. Thus, vertical magnetic recording and reproduction with high density can be performed for the running tape 1.
