PURPOSE: To make it possible to obtain a color image excellent in storage stability, by containing a specific image stabilizer in the recording layer of a thermal recording material.

CONSTITUTION: In a thermal recording material prepared by forming a recording layer containing an electron donating colorless or light colored dye precursor and an electron receptive coupler for performing the color formation of the dye precursor through the reaction therewith under heating onto a support, an image stabilizer comprising a compound represented by formula (wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl or halogen) [e.g., bis(4-hydroxy-3-methylphenyl)phthalate] is contained in a recording layer. By this method, a thermal recording material excellent in the storage stability of an image is obtained.
