PURPOSE: To improve a film forming property by enhancing the dispersing stability of solid particles in a medium, by preparing a dispersion stabilizer from a particulate resin, which has a bitter ion group in the molecule thereof and whose particle size measured by an electronic microscope is 150 or less.
CONSTITUTION: One or more of a monomer having at least one polymerizable ethylenic unsaturated group is polymerized in a liquid medium, which contains a dispersant having at least one bitter ion group in the molecule thereof, in the presence of a polymerization initiator to prepare a resin particle of which the particle size measured by an electronic microscope is 1,500 or less. This dispersion can be used as a dispersion stabilizer as it is but, the resin particle isolated by removing the liquid medium from said dispersion may be used as the dispersion stabilizer. As pigment stably dispersed by this dispersion stabilizer, there are extender pigment, coloring pigment and metal powder pigment.
