PURPOSE: To control simultaneously execution of plural programs with one terminal by splitting a video picture of one video data terminal, and providing an operating mode which can be used simultaneously from plural programs.
CONSTITUTION: A split display of a video picture is started by depressing a split key 32 of a leyboard 27 of a video data terminal 16. A program operated by an application program P1 of a local machine 5 uses an area of a screen 35, and a program operated by P2 can use an area of a screen 36. Basing on a split indicating information of a video picture, inputted from a terminal, a communication managing program 80 stores an information required for a split display of the video screen, in a main memory of the local machine 5, and executes a prescribed picture split display with respect to the subsequent input/output request to the data terminal.
