PURPOSE: To obtain a platen for a non-impact type printer having a function that a rubbery elastic material is expanded by a fluid pressure and a printing paper placed on the surface of the rubbery elastic material is uniformly contacted pressingly with the printing head.

CONSTITUTION: A platen 11 for touching a printing paper 20 with a head 17 having large numbers of dot-printing elements, like a thermal printer, is made up of a hollow box 12 having an opening 15 in the face of the printing element group of the head 17 and a rubbery elastic material 14 a part of which is expanded toward the outside of the opening 15 by a pressure fluid by covering the opening 15 from the inside of the box 12. A sheet 16 of a metal of Teflon having a small frictional coefficient and excellent wear reistance is provided on the outside of the opening 15 of the hollow box 12, and the paper 20 placed on the surface of the sheet 16 is desirably pressed on the head 17.
