PURPOSE: A cataplasma obtained by incorporating a cataplasma base containing water with a surfactant having a specific HLB value and an active constituent insoluble or sparingly soluble in water.
CONSTITUTION: A cataplasma, obtained by incorporating a hydrous cataplasma base, e.g. hydrous gel base crosslinkable with metallic ions (preferably nongelatin type base containing polyacrylic acid and polyacrylate and further sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and/or alkali metal alginate0 with 0.1W40wt% surfactant having 1W9 HLB value, e.g. sorbitan ester of a fatty acid, and 0.01W20wt% active constituent insoluble or sparingly soluble in water, e.g. indomethacin, and having high percutaneous absorption of the active constituent. The above-mentioned composition permits the stable compounding of the active constituent insoluble or sparingly soluble in water and high percutaneous absorption of the active constituent. KABURE, etc. is not easily caused in the skin, and the safety is excellent.
