PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound economically without using an unstable substance and an inexpensive reagent, by reacting o-chlorophenyl bisphenyl methanol as a raw material with acetyl chloride and acetylimidazole successively.
CONSTITUTION: o-Chlorophenyl bisphenol methanol as a raw material is reacted with acetyl chloride, and with acetylimidazole or cyanoimidazole in the presence of an alkali(e.g., hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate of alkali metal), to give the desired compound. An inert solvent such as acetonitrile, dichloromethane, acetone, etc. is used as a solvent. Acetyl imidazole as the raw material, for example, is obtained by reacting imidazole with acetic anhydride. Cyanoimidazole is obtained by reacting acetyl imidazole with cyanogen bromide.
